iOsteoporos Screen: An innovative technology

‘iOsteoporos Screen’ Tool is (an intelligent Osteporosis Screening Tool). it is an automated software solutions screening tool using our established novel empirical formula, powered with an AI and deep learning techniques., It uses a conventional digital or computed chest X-ray of the patient for screening. Mostly it needs no additional cost; it is readily available in any Hospital, even in rural areas as it is one of the basic investigations done in a health check-up.

‘iOsteoporos Screen’ is based on over last 22 years of research working on bone densitometry techniques and osteoporosis using conventional X-ray radiographic images of the patients and DXA, which is currently considered as a ‘standard’ for measuring areal bone mineral density (BMD). It has covered extensively both normal young women and men aged 20 years and above to post-menopausal women and men, aged 50 years and above, including patients with one or more old previous osteoporotic fractures at hip, spine and forearm; Almost all the existing conventional X-ray radiograph image based methods, namely metacarpal- & clavicle- radiogrammetry, vertebral morphometry, Singh’s index, and hip geometry were investigated in the evaluation of osteoporosis, when compared to standard. The parameters, measured from these radiographic methods, referred above were correlated well with the hip BMD, measured by DXA, and they were statistically significant. In this study, the mean values of all the measured parameters using these conventional radiographic methods and hip BMD values, measured by DXA in osteoporotic post-menopausal women group were compared to those in their counterpart young normal women group, it was found that, the calculated %CCT (percentage combined cortical thickness) of the clavicle using clavicle radiogrammetry showed the greatest average difference (3.7 SD). So, it was reported that, clavicle radiogrammetry was the best conventional radiographic method in the evaluation of osteoporosis, compared to standard. An empirical formula was established to estimate hip BMD with good sensitivity (82.4%) and specificity (94%) using the parameters measured by clavicle radiogrammetry from simple chest X-ray radiograph. These research findings have been published in the SCI/Scopus indexed International medical/ biomedical engineering journals (Please refer our research publications for further details)

Clinically Validated

In the recent clinical trial study in a Hospital, our novel technology was tested in the post-menopausal women for predicting osteoporosis. It has proved as better tool for predicting osteoporosis in total population and old-aged population studied with a high sensitivity (88.8 and 95.6 %), specificity (89.6 and 90.9 %), positive predictive value (88.8 and 95.6 %) and negative predictive value (89.6 and 90.9 %), respectively, when compared to DXA as standard. The study findings were published in a SCI/Scopus indexed international journal.

Another clinical trial study is in progress in a Hospital. All the potential patients with and without risk factors are being screened for osteoporosis using our iOsteoporos Screen tool. So far, 500+ post-menopausal women and men aged 50 years and above got benefit out of this tool.

Our Core Technology:

This tool requires patient’s recently taken digital/ computed chest X-ray image for an automated assessment of osteoporosis. In case, if the chest X-ray is not available, it is to be taken freshly for the patient.

This software is still under development inhouse and it will be launched soon. The following are our esteemed customers, who are having a diagnostic X-ray machine. It shall be installed in their computer, having the recently taken conventional digital/computed chest X-ray image of the patient. Any unskilled computer operator can use this tool, which assesses the image automatically. The output will be an estimated patient’s hip BMD value and the corresponding predicted higher risk for osteoporosis, it will give an auto-generated computerised report of the patient.

It is available at this website for FREE Online Screening for Osteoporosis and it will be offered for a limited period of time. It can be used by the Doctors, who wants to test their patients for screening osteoporosis.

Doctors, who have the recently taken chest X-ray image of the patient can avail this service. They need to upload the image (in JPEG format) to our technical service through online. After receiving, the image will be assessed by us using our iOsteoporos Screen tool, which will estimate patient’s hip BMD value by an automated way and will predict future risk for osteoporosis. An auto-generated computerised report of the patient will be sent back to the doctors by an email.
